Public Schools

Part of the Cincinnati Public School District, Amberley’s neighborhood elementary school is Pleasant Ridge Montessori (PRM), the district’s only neighborhood Montessori and one of only a few in the country.  It serves preschool students through grade 6 and opened in a brand-new LEED-certified building in the fall of 2008, after a two-year transition in other quarters.  Other communities served by the school are Pleasant Ridge, Golf Manor and parts of Columbia Township, Silverton and Kennedy Heights.

A school has been located continuously on the site since 1819, so although a new building, there’s already a long tradition in the community.  The current generation of parents, teachers and administrators are working with energy and diligence to foster excellence in education, with many Amberley families involved.  A foundation was formed in 2007 to support these endeavors.

After 6th grade, PRM students may move on to:

  • Walnut Hills — A college preparatory high school serving grades 7-12, Walnut Hills is one of the premier public high schools in the United States and was recently ranked by Newsweek as 34th best in the nation, one of only three in the top 100 in Ohio with the others being Indian Hill High School at 83 and Wyoming at 99.
  • Clark Montessori — The first public Montessori high school in the country serves grades 7-12. Consistently ranked Excellent by the Ohio Department of Education, the Gates Foundation named Clark as one of the top five model high schools in the United States.
